چکیده
A measurement of dielectron production in proton-proton (pp) collisions at s=13 TeV, recorded with the ALICE detector CERN LHC, is presented this Letter. The data set was a reduced magnetic solenoid field. This enables investigation kinematic domain low (ee) invariant mass mee and pair transverse momentum pT,ee that previously inaccessible LHC. cross section for studied as function mee, pT,ee, event multiplicity dNch/dη. expected rate from hadron decays, called hadronic cocktail, utilizes parametrization measured η/π0 ratio pp proton-nucleus collisions, assuming shows no strong dependence on collision energy momentum. Comparison yield to cocktail 0.15<mee<0.6 GeV/c2 pT,ee<0.4 GeV/c indicates an enhancement soft dielectrons, reminiscent “anomalous” soft-photon soft-dilepton excess hadron-hadron reported by several experiments under different experimental conditions. factor over amounts 1.61±0.13(stat)±0.17(syst,data)±0.34(syst,cocktail) acceptance. Acceptance-corrected spectra are extracted compared calculations bremsstrahlung thermal radiation within many-body approach.Received 15 June 2020Revised 12 April 2021Accepted 8 2021DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevLett.127.042302Published American Physical Society terms Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. Proton-proton collisions at production thresholds
Recent results obtained by the COSY – 11 collaboration concerning the production of η and η mesons in the pp → ppMeson reaction are presented. A comparison of the production amplitude for the π, η and η mesons at the same phase space volume allows to conclude that the proton η interaction is in the order of, or smaller than, the proton-π one. A total cross section determined in a preliminary an...
متن کاملNuclear like effects in proton-proton collisions at high energy
We show that several effects considered nuclear effects are not nuclear in the sense that they do not only occur in nucleus-nucleus and hadron-nucleus collisions but, as well, they are present in hadron-hadron (proton-proton) collisions. The matter creation mechanism in hh, hA and AA collision is always the same. The pT suppression of particles produced in large multiplicity events compared to ...
متن کاملGeneralized Z - Scaling in Proton - Proton Collisions at High Energies
New generalization of z-scaling in inclusive particle production is proposed. The scaling variable z is fractal measure which depends on kinematical characteristics of the underlying sub-process expressed in terms of the momentum fractions x 1 and x 2 of the incoming protons. In the generalized approach, the x 1 and x 2 are functions of the momentum fractions y a and y b of the scattered and re...
متن کاملLambda Polarization in Polarized Proton-Proton Collisions at RHIC
We discuss Lambda polarization in semi-inclusive proton-proton collisions, with one of the protons longitudinally polarized. The hyperfine interaction responsible for the ∆-N and Σ-Λ mass splittings gives rise to flavor asymmetric fragmentation functions and to sizable polarized non-strange fragmentation functions. We predict large positive Lambda polarization in polarized proton-proton collisi...
متن کاملKaon pair production in proton-proton collisions at COSY-ANKE
The near-threshold production of kaon-pairs has been investigated in protonproton collisions at Cooler Synchrotron (COSY)at Forschungszentrum Jülich. In the pp → ppKK reaction, the invariant mass distributions of Kp, Kpp, and KK indicate the presence of both Kp and KK final state interactions. Total cross sections for pp → ppφ reaction have been determined at excess energies ε of 18.5, 34.5, an...
